This is a community for the exploration of fidelity and jealousy issues in polyamory and other open relationship arrangements. It is also a forum for talking about the ups and downs, the pleasures and difficulties, the joys and heartbreaks of having more than one lover.
We welcome those who are new to this realm of experience, and hope that you will find guidance and advice in the company of others.
Here is a definition of compersion from the Polyamory society:
"Compersion n : the feeling of taking joy in the joy that others you love share among themselves, especially taking joy in the knowledge that your beloveds are expressing t heir love for one another, the term was coined by the Keristan Commune in San Francisco which practiced Polyfidelity, Kerista disbanded in the early 1990s."
It is kind of confusing, so I will attempt to explain it as I understand it. Compersion is an acceptance that those you love can love others, and it makes you happy to be part of that. It is the absense of jealousy in your heart to see your lover being affectionate with, or making love with, another. This requires a mature understanding of your sexuality, an open and wise heart, and a non-possessive attitude in relationships.
It is unfortunately rare in this world, but there are some resources out there, and on the internet (see below), for those who wish to understand and cultivate this kind of wisdom in love. I hope that this LJ community can become one of them.
